Workforce & Community Opportunities

Overview

The QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project is creating workforce, training and business opportunities for Nova Scotians.

The Skilled Trades and Equity Plan (STEP) is a collaborative initiative focused on building a more inclusive and skilled construction workforce — with equity at its core.

Led by Build Nova Scotia and PCL Construction, STEP is being co-created with industry, government and community partners. This work will begin by engaging communities to help shape shared goals and priorities.

Working closely with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, STEP will support:

  • increasing the number of registered apprentices
  • certification of journeypersons
  • stronger pathways into the skilled trades

STEP will place a strong focus on working with community-based organizations to identify and remove barriers, and to expand access to training, employment and procurement opportunities.

Together, this work will help build a resilient, inclusive construction workforce that supports Nova Scotia for decades to come.

"Skilled Trades and Equity Plan (STEP) is about opening doors – for workers, for businesses, and for communities across Nova Scotia. A key part of this work is ensuring people from underrepresented communities are supported and included, helping to build a workforce that reflects the diversity of our province. Whether you're looking to start a career in the skilled trades, grow your business, or get involved in a major project like the Halifax Infirmary Expansion, there's a place for you here. I encourage you to explore the opportunities and connect with us to learn more about how you can help build Nova Scotia's future."
